Large-format photography was the exclusive province of view cameras (4x5 and larger) for nearly a century. With the advent of digital imaging, new horizons have opened up that change how large-format photographers work, affecting their equipment, techniques, and workflows. This workshop explores these innovations as they relate specifically to landscape, architectural, and small-product photography.

The new large-format camera is the high-end Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR). As sensors allow greater magnification, these small cameras match and even surpass the quality of the older large-format equipment. Thanks to the introduction of tilt-shift lenses, DSLR can now be used for applications that were once the realm of their larger brothers and sisters. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom open up even more possibilities. The new Nikon full-frame D3 and accompanying tilt-shift lens, the prime examples of this new large-format paradigm, are supplied by Santa Fe Photographic Workshops to participants in this workshop; participants also are welcome to bring their own equipment.

Demonstrations and field assignments address a range of topics, such as devised studio and location techniques; large-format theory and practice; lighting setups and equipment (both flash and continuous); tethered shooting; WIFI imaging; computer workflow; and individual correction techniques.
